PROFILE OF SHANET CLARK

Birthday --- 14 March 1962

Shanet Clark: GSU History Fellow active with the Organization of American Historians, the American History Association, the Southern Historical Association and the National Council of History Educators (OAH, AHA, SHA and NCHE).

Shanet Clark graduated summa cum laude with a BA in History from GSU. Writer well versed in intelligence and Watergate history, & able to offer sober reality checks, facts, citations, to the debate as proud member of the EDUCATION FORUM.

Writer / Historian.
Born 3/14/1962: Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia. Outdoorsman.
Married to B.B.C Clark, Charleston S.C. 10/1/96, Parish of St. Michael's.
Resides Atlanta, Georgia: Democrat. Episcopal Disciples of Christ.

Blueblood Geneology: FFV or "First Family of Virginia"
I am apparently a fourteenth generation American, and my direct ancestors came from England to Virginia in 1611. I have WWII, Civil War and Revolutionary War ancestors. The Pilot John Clark, who was captured at Jamestown and held by the Spanish for four years, and then was hired to pilot the 'Mayflower' to Plymouth, Massachusetts, is my ancestor. I know of no other person who had property granted to him at both Plymouth Mass. and Jamestown Virginia, and he is my great grandfather to the Fourteenth Generation.

"The Seventh Son of the Seventh Son ... the long way"

I've been to 38 states and Jamaica and have experienced life to its full extent.
I studied political science under Dr. Simon Perry at Marshall University -- out in the rugged coal center of the tri-state industrial area; Charleston-Huntington-South Point-Ashland on the Ohio River where Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia meet. I wrote for newspapers and had a series of radio and television studio work experiences, then I earned at GSU in Atlanta the BA in History. Georgia Perimeter Community College, formerly DeKalb College, which was very diverse, and winning Honors History Student of the Year, and model myself now on these public academians. Harold Laswell, C. Wright Mills and V.O. Key informed my politics, exposes, critical work.

I took the Graduate Records Exam, an SAT test for college graduates in the US, scoring in the top one percent in the verbal area, in the ninety-ninth percentile of all college graduates. I think we can all take pride in this. This was sweet vindication indeed for a self-taught writer who had put up with dimwits all his life.

Political Scientists, Psychologists and Sociologists have taught me that education is an indoctrination and intended for behavioural socialization, mainly for ideological conditioning and imposing rhetorical constraints. I only returned to the academy when I felt I could use the system for the critical political anlyses of history's "unspoken truths."

In 1988 I helped Dr. Jack Herer edit the book "The Emperor Wears No Clothes: Paper, Fiber, Fuel and Food" & I was News Director of WMOQ FM "the Bridge" rock station in Athens, Georgia 1996, writing and producing timed ninety-second cartridges for airplay on entertainment, technology and news.

I travel and present papers on political history and geography to history and inter-disciplinary conferences around the country.

I am active in the OAH,SHA,AHA and NCHE, history organizations, and a member of the Benevolent Association of Hibernians, Atlanta.

I was good friends with the Seventh Episcopal Bishop of Atlanta, the late Judson Child. I have been backstage with Little Feat, Grateful Dead, Firefall, Widespread Panic, Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen with Bill Kirchen, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, Outlaws and the Drive By Truckers, all these very cool and talented contemporaries, my associates and dear friends, working in their culturally constricted and publicly inscribed spaces we all now inhabit, friends of mine thriving in all their postmodern irony and eclecticity... even Jerry Garcia was an acquaintance.

I subscribe to The New York Times, Playboy and New York magazine, and I occasionally read the National Review and Soldier of Fortune. I own over one thousand books, many from the eighteenth and nineteenth century, the 1783
S. Johnson Shakespeares, Paley, Layard, Tott, Elton, Punch 1876 and MacCaulay.
I value critical thinking, the incisive use of reason, self-awareness. My tendency is to corgi-like yipping into the face of hypocrisy emanates from immersion in the great books, protestant anti-clerical theory, whig theory, media political agenda theory, critics like Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, Ginsburg and Kerouac and Gary Snyder, also Alan Watts... Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear... contact with artists and songwriters, poets, radical independents, balanced by my insistence on the Wallawhatoola way, the way of Powhatan, or integrity in the face of authority.

My father was a Nixon antagonist and a Kennedy man in West Virginia in 1960.
I have always been contrarian. I have read LAING and Oscar Janiger, Robert A. Wilson, P. K. Dick, Kurt Vonnegut, Vance Packard, C. Wright Mills, Domhoff and Dahl, the logistics of political participation theory, Louis Hartz, the rhetoric of the founders and Clay/Lincoln, the rhetoric of MacCaulay and Bishop Gilbert Burnet, Rene Descates...Samuel Clarke and Issac Newton, Montesquie, DeToqueville and Voltaite. Jean Jacque Rousseau... the Skellig Irish Bishops, the ancient martyrs, the native American myth and shamanist tradition, British Druid Christian tradition ...Lives of Boadicca, Bran, Caroadoc, Linus, Coel, and the Silurian Court in first century Rome, Joseph of Arimathea, Arthur at Bath, William III and Washington, Wellington... Madoc ObGwinet, Saint Patrick, Saint Augustine of Hippo, (the first autobiography) Thor Heyerdahl, Joseph Conrad, Dr. Johnson. Greatest influence: a pious Victorian grandmother who was insistent on sanitation and church on Sunday, Welsh nationalism.

All time favorite music: Apostophe, Blues for Allah, Timepeace and Blind Faith.
