Louis M. Reigel, III -
Assistant Director, Cyber Division
Mr. Reigel was born February 10, 1954, in Trinidad, British West Indies.
As his father was career military, Mr. Reigel received his early
education worldwide. In 1976, Mr. Reigel graduated with a Bachelor of
Science in Accounting from the University of South Florida, Tampa,
Florida. Prior to Mr. Reigel's appointment as a Special Agent with the
Federal Bureau of Investigation, he served as a district manager for a
national inventory firm.
Mr. Reigel entered on duty with the FBI in 1973, and served until 1978
as a support employee assigned to the Tampa Field Office. In January
1980, he was appointed as a Special Agent. Following a period of
training, he was assigned to the Mobile, Alabama office in May 1980, and
in January 1981 was transferred to the Detroit, Michigan office. In May
1992, Mr. Reigel was transferred to FBI Headquarters where he served as
a supervisor in the Criminal Investigative Division - Asset
Seizure/Money Laundering Unit.
In July 1994, Mr. Reigel was transferred to the Los Angeles Division
where he supervised a Money Laundering squad. In December of 1995, Mr.
Reigel was transferred to the Los Angeles office of the Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA) where he supervised a joint FBI and DEA squad as
part of the Southwest Border Initiative.
In April 1998, Mr. Reigel was designated an Assistant Special Agent in
Charge (ASAC) in the Los Angeles Division where he had responsibility
for the Organized Crime, Drug, and Violent Crime programs. In April
2000, he was assigned as the Administrative ASAC responsible for
financial management, Support employee operations, and Office of
Professional Responsibility matters.
In October 2001, Mr. Reigel served as the Acting Special Agent in Charge
of the Los Angeles Division's National Security and White Collar Crime
programs. He served in that position until his appointment in May 2002
to Deputy Assistant Director, Finance Division, FBIHQ.
On June 2, 2003, Mr. Reigel assumed the duties of Special Agent in
Charge of the New Orleans Field Office. On December 23, 2004, Director
Mueller appointed him to the position of Assistant Director, Cyber
Division, and on February 28, 2005, Mr. Reigel reported as Assistant
Director of the Cyber Division.
