SUBJECT: BEATLES FILE NUMBER: 94-2653 DATE: August 19, 1964 IMAGE ABSTRACT: (Continuation of the grenade threat against the Beatles) The FBI agent who wrote the initial report states that the Denver Police Department will supply approximately 200 officers to handle the crowd during the scheduled Beatles' concert on August 26, 1964, at the Red Rocks Ampitheater, in Jefferson County, Colorado. The agent further states that about 50 additional officers will be supplied by the Jefferson County Sheriff's in Golden, Colorado, to assist the Denver Police with crowd control at the ensuing Beatles' concert. The agent further notes that Assistant U.S. Attorney in Denver, James A. Clark, decided to categorize the grenade threat as extortion, rather than a murder threat, because according to Clark, "the threat does fall within the purview of the Federal extortion statute." The FBI agent forwards a copy of the postcard to the FBI crime lab for fingerprint analysis to determine the identity of the person who made the threat.
