SUBJECT: BEATLES FILE NUMBER: 157-6 IMAGE ABSTRACT: FBI teletype to Hoover. Surveillance status of Beatles' concert at Cow Palace in Daly City, California, on August 19, 1964. The FBI was apparently expecting a racial incident, possibly because the Bureau had historically viewed rock 'n' roll as music of blacks. The report indicates approximately 17,000 fans attended; generally orderedly, but crowd became extremely excited and noisy when Beatles appeared. Many fans fainted. Some minor physical altercations occurred among juvenile fans, but nothing serious.
